This landscaping project transformed a cluttered, aging Parisian terrace into an airy, modern living space.
Our customers had invested in this apartment largely to be able to enjoy the beautiful outdoor space of over 30m². However, this was in a very poor state of repair, as the previous owners had kept overgrown bamboo and pine trees in this small space.
All the existing planters and vegetation were carefully removed to limit structural damage as plants root systems had aggressively attacked the water-resistance of the floor. A new floor covering of ipe wood decking was installed by our partner. Additional railings were installed to comply with safety regulations.
The particular challenge for this terrace was to find a way of isolating it from the very present vis-à-vis, without enclosing it with panels. We decided to place a double row of beige planters along the opposite railing. The row against the railing is raised by a wooden platform. This arrangement ensures perfect privacy by blocking the view of the neighboring building, acting as a hedge.
To bring diversity and movement to the plant composition, a second, lower row of planters has been installed, accommodating grasses and flowering perennials. These light, colorful plantings contrast nicely with the evergreens, adding touches of color as the seasons change.
To conceal the unattractive separation from the neighbouring terrace, view-obscuring panels made of horizontal ipe wood slats were installed with elevation panels. On the other side of the terrace, the view has been kept deliberately unobstructed to take full advantage of the environment and the view of the Eiffel Tower.
The choice of furniture had to be coordinated with the interior of the apartment which had just been renovated by the Heju agency. The choice was made for designer, compact and weather-resistant pieces, selected for their ability to last over time without the need for protective tarpaulins as they remain visible all year round.
